WHAT TO EXPECT:

Baseline Assessment

We will review your current energy consumption and power bills to provide a baseline understanding of your energy usage.

Interview

We will assess your known challenges with heating/cooling areas within the home, or seasonal problems such as ice-dams. This documentation will help guide us during the home inspection.

Home Energy Assessment

We will complete a home energy assessment which may include the following:

  1. Look at the energy consumption of your major appliances.

  2. Evaluate your furnace and associated equipment.

  3. Do a visual inspection of your attic, basement and insulation.

  4. Do a visual inspection of windows, doors, and visible pipe penetrations to the outside.

  5. Use a blower door and/or infrared camera to identify air leaks and other issues.

Reporting

We will identify energy efficiency measures that you could take in your home with guidance on prioritization. The recommendations will be provided in a brief, easy to read report. The report will also highlight potential cost saving incentives that you may be eligible for.

ASSESSMENT TOOLS

All assessments come with a visual inspection by a trained Building Performance Institute certified Building Analysist. The equipment below can help further identify energy losses by locating air leaks and unnecessary energy consumption.

Blower Door

A blower door test measures how leaky a home is. The blower door is a large fan that is temporarily installed in the home’s door. The fan is turned on to depressurize the house. Once the house is depressurized, leaks are detected through a room-by-room inspection.

Infrared Camera

Infrared cameras take infrared images of a house. This test is useful in detecting insulation issues and air leakages within the home.  We will take pictures of areas in your house that show changes in temperatures, indicating leaks or missing insulation.
